Equipment

Your laptop!

Using one platform makes our lives easier, so everyone gets a MacBook. If you’re a Windows or Linux person, we hear ya (some of us are too). If you’re new to macOS, it’ll be a little weird at first, but you’ll get the hang of it. On arrival you’ll also get access to a laptop stand and a monitor at your desk so you can work through the handbook comfortably.

Pro tip: Invest in a laptop bag. At the end of your work day onsite, you should take your laptop home with you if you work remote days (as well as whatever extra small equipment you may need, like dongles or mice). When you work onsite again, you need to bring it back (if you want to get any work done).

Office Supplies

Here at the office we provide you with your laptop of course (going to need that), a mouse and keyboard, as well as dongles/adapters in case you need to connect additional tech to your laptop (such as a second monitor).

If you find that your mouse is running out of battery, check to see if it has rechargeable batteries. If so, Emanuel has a handy dandy charging station by his desk! If the mouse or anything else just seems faulty and needs replacing, you can find more in the office cabinet behind the orange couch. The cabinet is locked; if you can’t find the keys, ask one of the fulltimers where they are.

Note: When you borrow something from the cabinet, make sure to list it in the whiteboard that sits on the door. This way we can keep good track of the items we’re missing!

Requests

If you’re in need of a new mousepad/keyboard/etc, you can put in a request with Matt or Francisca for the item you had in mind, and they will put in a request to have it delivered to us if it is approved.

Desk and Chairs

This is the fun part!

The fulltimer that sets you up on your first day will help find an empty desk for you! You don’t have to stay in it if you decide that you prefer a different desk a few days later, or even the day of, so long as it’s nobody’s current desk. You may also ask for an extra monitor for your desk if we have others available to take.

Feel free to decorate your desk however you like! You will notice there are a lot of desks in the office already with a taste of the desk dweller’s personality. Here are a few!

As far as chairs go, there are a lot of them in the office! If yours doesn’t suit you, feel free to swap out yours for one that’s sitting at a free desk. Just make sure you don’t take someone else’s chair!
