Course Modalities
Courses at UCF are offered in various different “modalities”. The modality refers to how the course is delivered, such as face-to-face, fully-online, or though recorded video. We typically work with W, M, and RS courses.
How do I find the modality of a course?
The best way to find the modality of a course is to search for the course in Redbeard. However, you can usually tell the modality of a course by looking at its name, although this format is not enforced.
Let’s take ENC1101-21Spring 0M01 as an example:
- ENC1101 is the course prefix and number.
- 21Spring is the semester in which this course was taught. In this case, Spring of 2021.
- 0M01 identifies the modality as M (mixed-mode), and the section number as 01. There is often more than one section of a course taught in a given semester, so this number distinguishes between them.
- If the first two digits are 00, then it’s probably a P (face-to-face) course.
- If the first two digits are 0W, then it’s probably a WW (fully-online) course.
Review the different modalities on the Types of Courses at UCF page on the CDL website.
