General Protocols

Image is Everything

CDL receives numerous phone calls and unexpected visitors seeking information and support related to the various services we offer. Employees are expected to respond in a professional manner. When interacting with our clients, it is especially important to our success to act accordingly.

Dress Code

Techrangers are asked to report to work dressed appropriately for the type of work performed. Casual attire is permitted, but clothing that detracts from a professional work environment is discouraged. When visitors are expected or when participating in an event, please refrain from wearing shorts or flip flops.

At events such as group photos and presentations you will be expected to wear business attire and your name tag. However, this does not occur often.

Also with the close vicinity in which you will be expected to work with each other, good personal hygiene is key. Be sure to always wear deodorant or bring an extra shirt if you are someone who sweats a lot.

Refer to the official Dress Code page in the CDL Staff Orientation for more details.

Housekeeping

CDL is a place of work and is frequented by many visitors. Please remember the following:

  • Pick up around your work area.
  • When you leave, push your chair under the desk and log out of your computer.
  • If you need to put something in the refrigerator, use the one in the break room. Remember to label it with your name and date so that it doesn’t get thrown away.
  • When using the microwave, ALWAYS cover food and immediately clean any spills. No one cleans the microwave for us.

Illegal Files and Software

The storage of illegal software or files (including music files, cracked software, etc) on any of our computers or servers is strictly forbidden. The use of any software used to download or upload mp3s as well as any illegal software is forbidden. Violation of this protocol is cause for termination.

Software Installation Policy

Use the Self Service application to install any apps you require to do your job. If you require an application that is not available, talk to your supervisor.

Intellectual Property and Sensitive Data

As developers, we generate a lot of intellectual property. Every image, layout, sentence, and line of code is valuable, and it’s important to handle it properly. Likewise, we deal with some sensitive data that needs to be kept safe in accordinace with the law. Here are some important points to consider:

  • The code and intellectual property you generate while “on the clock” or using employer resources (laptop, software, etc.) belongs to your employer, so don’t use employer resources for personal projects.
  • Code is expected to be private and closed source by default. Distributing it or posting it publicly requires the completion of our official approval process.
  • Using personal accounts with services such as Heroku or Netlify for employer projects requires approval from your supervisor.
  • Don’t expect any fees for a personal service account to be paid for by your employer without a prior arrangement/approval.
  • Don’t host or upload any sensitive data on 3rd party hosting services without prior approval. Refer to the UCF Employee Code of Conduct and FERPA Training courses for more detailed information.

If you have any questions about these policies, please ask your trainer and/or your supervisor.
