Hybrid Work

If you would like to work a hybrid schedule, you are allowed to do so after 6 months of employment. Once you have reached the 6-month mark, follow this proceedure to establish a hybrid work schedule:

  1. Ensure that your remote work space has sufficient internet speeds to allow for video meetings over Zoom or Teams.
  2. Work with your supervisor to determine up to 3 days of the week when you will work remote. No partially-remote days are allowed; you’re either working in the office the whole day or working remote the whole day. All scheduling rules still apply. Full-timers: This schedule will depend on part-time employee coverage requirements.
  3. Fill out the Remote Work Arrangement Request form, specifically Section I, Proposed Work Schedule, and Section III. Sign and submit this form to your supervisor.
  4. Once your request has been approved, you may begin your hybrid work schedule.

Status Transparency

In hybrid work environments, you can’t just look over at someone’s desk to see if they are working and available at that moment, so it’s important to be transparent about your current status. Your status on Teams is automatically updated based on your Outlook calendar, but we like to share a little more information on Slack.

Reporting Status on Slack

#work-log is a quick summary of the tasks you worked on that day. This is useful to sum up random events into an easy to consume message.

Additionally, BB8 has a feature that will nicely collect all of your #work-log posts for a given year, which is super valuable for revisiting and accounting for all your efforts and accomplishments for performance appraisals and your own gratification. In Slack, message BB8 directly and send it worklog 2021, replacing 2021 with the year you would like to view.
